    1. [SCMARLBO-L] Holy Road and Drake Cemetery
    2. Bushy Hartman
    3. Well you did it again and answered my question. We in error thought the two cemeteries had been one before the Hwy 38 was built. From the wonderful help of Barb, Joanne, and Patrick we have found out that they are two separate cemeteries and are named: Holy Road Cemetery and Drake Cemetery we have photos from both. Thanks so much and we'll get them up there as soon as possible. I also have some Marlboro Wills to go up in a week once I transcribe them their on my to do list. Thanks so much Bushy & Mike Hartman

    3. Bushy, I regret that I can not identify your Marlboro Co cemetery but I can tell you that the James Alexander McAllister buried there was born 20 Oct 1889 and died 9 Jun 1891. He was the 6th child of the Rev. David Smith McAllister, a Presbyterian minister who lived and preached in Marlboro Co for some years. The Rev. D.S. wrote a compilation of traditional genealogical data entitled "The Descendants of Col. Alexander McAllister", who was an Argyll colonist who lived north of Fayetteville, NC across the Cape Fear River from Bluff Church. Thank you for shareing. Mike is busy working on uploading some wills for Berkeley Co. so I thought I would try sending the index of the stones we actually photographed and if you recognize the name of the cemetery please let me know. This is only a partial listing and by no means complete, we were pretty tired and just couldn't resist stopping on our way home. This cemetery appears to have been split in half by the road. On the NW corner there was a school. I had written it down but of course the notes disappeared like the rest from that trip along with the name of the cross street. 3. I all, Were working on the photos we took while visiting Marlboro County, geeze... many moons ago. We were shooting some of Hebron Cemetery in Clio and so much time has passed that I have misplaced my hand written notes of our visit. We have a headstone that didn't come out very clear and need some help filling in the missing data: wife of JAMES R. MANNING, ____NIA A. COVINGTON b. 28 Nov 1832 d. 5 May 1900 JAMES R. MANNING b. 5 Jun 1839 d. 28 Jul 1901 Could someone tell me the name of the wife of James R. Manning? http://www.rootsweb.com/~scberkel/mini_counties.htm Berkeley County "mini county" web pages Also wanted to let the SC researchers know we have expanded our Berkeley County site to include our private researching trips. We have what we call our "mini counties" that links off of our Berkeley home page. We have will books for Kershaw, Darlington, and indexes for Williamsburg. We have a few recent obits for some counties and cemeteries and slowly getting the photos to the headstones uploaded were just very backed up but actively working on it. Just keep checking back on our "What's New" section and there will be a direct link to the newest items to save you time. We in no way are trying to replace or compete with existing web pages but felt why not share what we have collected and it is safer on the web than on this old computer or here in hurricane land in paper form. By having our own small web pages we can save time by posting it ourselves and the county coordinators can just put a link to it if they wish. Thanks so much for your time hoping to hear from someone. Take care Bushy & Mike Hartman

    2. Bob Dukes
    3. Hi: I have the opportunity to spend a day or two in Marlboro County next week on my way back from Rock Hill to Charleston and would appreciate advice on how to best spend my time. My grandmother was Annie Jane Breeden Craven, daughter of Welcome Adams Breeden and Julia Margaret Fletcher. I would like to visit cemeteries connected with the Breeden, Fletcher, and other related families. Also I wonder about local library resources. Does the county library have much in the way of genealogy? I understand that there is a historical society. Would they be of help? Does anyone know the hours either are open? Thanks for the help in advance. Bob Dukes

    2. Marsha McWilliams
    3. Hello Everyone, I'm brand new to the list, this being my first posting. I am in hopes that someone has information on the following families and will be able to help me: Jesse WILLIAMS, b: ca:1785, md. 1805 (Marlboro Co) Nancy RAYFIELD. (Undocumented by me), Jesse died 1849, Fayette Co, OH. Was Jesse born in Guilford Co, NC? MD? There is a Mary WILLIAMS listed on Marlboro Co's Tax & Voter's List, 1819 and in Vol. I of Marlboro Co Wills, 1787-1853, Vol. I, Sec. A, pg. 207. Does anyone have any information on this Mary? Was she the mother of Jesse? Other information I've found is on an Eli WILLIS (believe he was the Elic WILLIS, b: MD, 1785) who married Nancy Bennett. They had a son, Milby Willis (Eli/Elic also had a brother, Milby, who was born in 1768, MD.) I'm trying to determine if the Marlboro WILLIS family is truly the same as the MD one (I believe that it is.) Most of the MD families that I've researched who went to the Marlboro Co, SC area settled at Gum Swamp, near the Little Pee Dee, just over the NC border. Some of these families became Quakers, but some did not. I do not believe the WILLIAMS and WILLIS families became Quakers. Does anyone know if these WILLIAMS and WILLIS families lived around this area? Thank you. Marsha IL
