I have just spent the last few minutes in complete silence and thought in honor of one of genealogy's pillars of research. I never knew Mr. Rudisill, but knew his reputation, which was huge in the field of genealogy. He was known far and wide for many, many years as one of the best sources for the 'Old Cheraw' area as well as the Pee Dee area and it's families. I had the pleasure of communicating with him once via email, and he was very generous with his help and was very encouraging and kind. He was responsible for getting the "Minutes of Saint David's Society (1777-1835)" published by editing it for print from the original book. He also helped with the wonderful "The Diaries of Evan Pugh [1762-1801]" by transcribing the original diaries, which were written in small books the size of playing cards. His work was described as 'fortunate for the (existing) Society, there was available in Horace Rudisill the outstanding scholarship, patience, and knowledge of local history necessary to accomplish the task." Mr. Rudisill contributed so much for so many, and we will all benefit from his work for years to come. Hi All, I do know of a location to start with: Medlin Springs. Medlin Springs was a popular tourist place in the late 1800's, however, it didn't last past the turn of the century(that I know of). It was located about one and a half miles south-south-west of Dunbar. Dunbar is about three and a half miles south-west of Clio. The site is now several hundred yards from the paved road (Dunbar Hwy; S-35-32), but was originally on the main road before paving changed the main route through this immediate area. Nothing but trees, swamp, and a couple of fields there now. The area is known to the locals as "the flats" or the flatwoods. Jeff Dudley
Hello again to all of your quiet Marlboro Co. researchers. I am also looking for any early Bundy family members. John Bundy, wife Susan, came into Marlboro Co., SC ca. 1820 or so. Had several children. We are trying to find them all. Would be glad to hear from anyone who might have a 'loose' Bundy on their chart. Also, looking for the family of a Walter Eli Bundy who died June 1897. Thanks. Joanne Bundy Harley NC harleyclan@coastalnet.com
