Born in Dillon County, August 12, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Lewis Gregory Lane and Maggie Mae Cox Lane. She was a member of Manning Chapel United Methodist Church, and was a homemaker. She was the widow of the late Woodrow Robert English. Survivors include her daughters, Doris Faye English Roy of Allendale, SC, Sally E. Morton of Laurinburg, NC, Shirley (Clifton) English Swan of Bennettsville, and Sheila (Sonny) English Phillips of Latta; sons, Woodrow (Peggy) Robert English, and Herbert (Betty) Lewis English all of Latta, Tracy (Gail) F. (Carolyn) Floyd English all of Blenheim, and Jerry (Patsy) Wayne English of Grifton, NC; sisters, Carrie Mae Malcheskey of Springfield, MA and Johnnie Sarvis of Salinas, CA; 20 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Junius Freeman Mullins -- Mr. Junius Franklin Freeman, 84, died Wednesday, September 17, 2003, in McLeod Regional Medical Center after an illness. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, September 19, at the chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Cedardale Cemetery, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home. Mr. Freeman was born August 26, 1919, in Marlboro County, a son of the late William Franklin Freeman and the late Carrie Sports Freeman. Mr. Freeman had retired from Ford Motor Company. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II. He was a member of Parnassus United Methodist Church in Marlboro County. Calhoun, John Caldwell LAURINBURG -- John Caldwell Calhoun, 91, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003. Memorial Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, at Church in the Pines Presbyterian Church, U.S. Highway 74, Laurel Hill, N.C. Mr. Calhoun was born March 16, 1912, the youngest of six sons born to the late Lawrence and Elizabeth Gibson Calhoun. He was a graduate of Davidson College. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was an educator and retired as a principal in 1975. Mr. Calhoun was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers. Mr. Calhoun is survived by his wife, Mary Stewart McGoogan Calhoun; daughter, Mary Calhoun Scott and husband Ronald of Darlington; son, John Caldwell Calhoun Jr. of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two grandchildren, Julia Elizabeth Scott and Ronald Calhoun Scott; and nine nieces and nephews. Fields, Sylvia G. MYRTLE BEACH | Sylvia Greene Fields, 78, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, at her home. She was born May 27, 1925, in Philadelphia, PA, a daughter of the late Harry and Sarah Krupnick Greene. In 1954, she moved to Marlboro County where she was the Director of Purchasing for Marnat Packing Company and So-Pak-Co from 1959 until her retirement in 1992. While living in Marlboro County, she was a Girl Scout Leader, and active participant in the Marlboro Arts Council, and a founding member of the Marlboro Players theater group. After moving to Myrtle Beach, upon her retirement, she remained active - serving on the Board of Directors, for the Grand Strand Players and the Grand Strand Dance Group. In 2001, she was awarded the Volunteer of the Year at the Senior Center. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Leonard A. Fields, two sons, Gary Alan Fields and wife Charlotte, of Atlanta, Ga., and Dr. Marshall C. Fields of Columbia, S.C., a daughter, Leslie Ellen Branham and husband Ronald D. of Lugoff, S.C., a brother, Edward Greene of Myrtle Beach, S.C., five grandchildren, Matthew, Joshua, Jonathan, Adam, and Rebecca. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 16 at Temple Emanu-El in Myrtle Beach with Rabbi Avi Perets officiating. He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities including choir member for 35 years, Sunday School teacher and treasurer. After retiring from farming for 35 years, he worked as superintendent of the Marlboro Country Club for 10 years. A native of Palmetto, Fla., Mr. Searcy moved to South Carolina in 1935. He was an avid golfer, fisherman and outdoorsman. Mr. Searcy is survived by his wife of 65 years, LaHentz Quick Searcy, and three children: sons, Donald, M. Searcy and wife Loretta of Denton, Texas, David J. Searcy & wife Betty of Florence and a daughter, Marcia S. Cleveland and husband Scott of Mt.
