Hi, Do any of you guys have a Kenion Rogers amongst your Rogers? I have a will or something on my Clark's that mentions a Kenion Rogers. My Clark's also have a Kenion Clark, so Kenion Rogers could have been a nephew. I know he wasnt a son to Kenion Clark. Kenion Clark's sister, Meedy, was married to a Rogers. I think his first name was Robert, but not sure. I am actually looking for my Clark ancestors and am just taking stabs in the dark!!! Oh, by the way, Larry, is there any Clark's in the Oak Ridge or Pearson Cemetaries? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!! Susan

>Hi, Glenn, I shouldn't answer hastily without notes in front of me, but... there is a great book about the Rogers family which lived in Marlboro County. I think it is the same as the Nicholas Rogers family. The title is something like "Little Acorns from the Mighty Oak". I was in Bennettsville very briefly a few weeks ago and was able to copy about two pages which listed the twenty (I think that is the actual number) children of Col. Ben Rogers. I'll try to track down the few notes I took. If I find any reference to Sara, I will let you know, but I am not optimistic since I didn't have a chance to write much. P.S. I also went by the Pearson Cemetery not far from Smyrna church. Larry Jones I am looking for information on the Rogers Family of Marlboro County. Rev. >J.A.W. Glen, In the Oak Ridge Cemtery in Bennettsville are the following Pearsons: Sam J. Pearson May 6, 1876; Jan 13, 1947 Masonic emblem w. Josephine Patrick Pearson Dec 13, 1878; Dec 26, 1959 Julina Pearson, Oct 18, 1848; Feb 6, 1920 Z.T. Pearson, June 6, 1853; Sept 8, 1915 Josephine Pearson, died Dec 26, 1957; age 81 years Sam J. Rachel Pearson, died Jan 3, 1905; age 89 years 5 months In the history of the old Cheraws: The Pearsons settled on the east side of the river, in what is now Marlborough District, on a valuable tract of land, known afterwards and from an early day as the "Big Plantation". Moses Pearson was a noted captain in the Revolution. William Strother, whose name appears here for the first time, was a son of Charles Strother, who emigrated from Virginia to Charles Town and died there. William Strother moved to Cheraw not long before this period. He married first, Miss Rogers, daughter of Benjamin Rogers and afterward Lucy Hicks a daughter of Col. George Hicks (pg 179) Members of the Revolution Pearson, Aaron private 1782 Pearson, Moses, lieutenant in Hick's Regiment in 1780 and captain in Benton's Regiment, Marion's Brigade in 1781-82 On 21st of March, the joint committe of the Senate and House, appointed for that purpose reported a list of justices for the several counties. For Marlborough...Claudius Pegues, sen, Geo. Hicks, Morgan Brown, Tristram Thomas, Claudius Pegues, jr., Moses Pearson and Thomas Evans (pg 433) I don't know if any of this will help since no where does it mention the spouse(s) of Moses Pearson though he seems to have been quite prominent in the area following the Revolution. I was wishing I could help you tonight but.... 1. I sent my zeroxed index to the book to a distant cousin in AL....She wanted more information and I thought I would not need it before I receive the book which I ordered about a week ago. 2. I looked through the zeroxed pages which I still have and didn't find any reference to the Rogers Family. I have less than 20 pages of the book. 3. I am going to SC Monday for a week, actually to my son's in Augusta, GA and make day trips to SC. Through researching I have found James Spears has a diary in the University of SC. 4. I recently meet James Meekins a descendant of Nathaniel Spears. He is a 73 year old artist/painter in Latta, SC. I plan to visit him. He called me last week and says he has lots of information. He is a genealogist also. 5. When my book comes I will look up Rogers Family and pass it on to you. If I forget jog my memory but remember I'll be gone all next week. 6. Does anyone know the parentage of the following spears girls Clara Spears m Alfred Parish Lattia "tillie" Spears m David Dixon Parish Need Dates on their birth.
Linda, Yes, I am descended from the same family.... My ancestor was Captain Moses Pearson, brother to Aaron Pearson. Their father was Moses Pearson, Sr. whose Will was probated in Charleston in 1763... The existence of Moses Sr. was not know until the middle of this century to family researchers... J.A.W. Thomas recorded their father as Aaron.... Aaron was a significant landowner in the Pee Dee.. I recently obtained a copy of the Royal Land Grant for him... I would be interested in hearing from you regarding your connection.. etc... Several of us are researching the origins of Moses Sr.... It appears he may have been the brother to Captain Samuel Pearson of Wake County... and both the sons of Simon Pearson of Baltimore County Md/ Fairfax Co. Virginia... We would be interested in any colateral information that you may be willing to share.. Dear Glenn, Thank you for the info. I'll check out the SC DAH web page. Best regards, Mark Willcutts
Mark, Check out the new S.C. Department of Archives and History in Columbia, S.C... I spent a day there several weeks ago and it was certainly worth the trip. They have microfilm records for Marlboro County dating to the colonial era... in particular.... all sorts of Land grants.... royal grants..state land grants...and deeds issued post 1790... Also, they have microfilm records for the Marlboro County Wills... Court Sessions... etc... I do not think birth records, etc were recorded until late 1800's... or maybe early 1900. The SC DAH has a webb page as well!! Are there indexes to the ones that do exist? Thank you, Mark
Hi Glenn, I know that Winifred Spears born about 1754 married Pearson Aaron or Aaron Pearson. Are you a descendant of this family? I am on the Spears line. Linda Spears Bussler
Thank you anyway, Linda. That book should be a good resource - I'll make a note of it. Best regards, Mark
