Attention Southeastern North Carolina Researchers: You may be interested in knowing about my recent book, 'Scattered Seed - Genealogical Research Data of Southeastern North Carolina.' I have posted the complete index at: http://home.att.net/~hbridges/myrtle.htm Please take a look. You may find an ancestor there! Thanks, Myrtle Bridges
I've noticed a couple of postings recently about the Stubbs family. Forgive me if this has already been mentioned. Stubbs family researchers may be interested in the 1964 book by Leonardo Andrea and Joseph Edward Hill entitled "Abstracts of Divisions of Estates of Stubbs and Allied Families of Marlboro County, S.C." I don't have a copy of the book but just of a few pages from it, but I think it may be very useful. In it, reference is made to another book, which I don't recall having ever seen--"The Descendants of John Stubbs of Cappahosic, Gloucester County, Virginia, 1652" by William Carter Stubbs, 1902. Another book which I have seen which makes reference to this same 1902 book and which gives about a six page summary of the Stubbs family has a title like Burch, Harrell and Allied Familes. Unfortunately, I don't have the name of who wrote it. All of these indicate that the Stubbs family originated in (were foresters in) the Royal Forest of Knaresborough, Yorkshire, England. >From some source (unverified) I have that Rebecca Connor, wife of John Stubbs and mother of William Stubbs, was a daughter of Thomas Connor, Sr., b. 1678 in Maryland and Capt. during Colonial Wars, d, August 4, 1778 at 90 years, and Margaret Cleary. I've noticed recent postings about the AMMONS family. As far as I know I am not a descendant of that family, but if any AMMONS researcher should come across the name of Martha AMMONS b. ca. 1838 or 1839, I would certainly love to know. A person by that name was supposed to have been the wife of my gg uncle, Robeson Hays, who died in the Civil War. I believe that they had two children and they lived during their short married life in the area very close to where old Marion County and Marlboro bordered. I think, but am not sure, that Martha married Robert McLendon after the death of Robeson Hays. Any clues would be greatly appreciated. Larry Jones

Fred, I am interested in your STUBBS line from McColl area. I have information on a short STUBBS line and am interested to see if you could help fill in some blanks. John STUBBS m Frances CONNER. Son William STUBBS b.12/22/1748 d.6/26/1839 m.1770 to Elizabeth HUBBARD b.1744 d.1839. Hi Dorn Do you have any information of the parents or ancestors of Frances Conner Pat

Hi Bonnie, I am not really connected to the AMMONS family except as sort of a 'step family' relationship. Our connection to the Ammons family is that Sion WIGGINS Senr. married (in his later years), Beady, the young widow of Joshua AMMONS Jr. , who was probably not much older than Sion's own children. Joshua and Beady had a daughter, Winy Jane AMMONS. (In the 1832 Will of Joshua AMMONS Senr. he mentions grand daughter Winy Jane, daughter of his late son, Joshua Jnr.) In Sion WIGGINS' Will recorded 1836, names wife Beady, leaves cow and calf to Winy Jane AMMONS. In preparation to his marriage to Beady AMMONS, Sion gifted his land to his sons Sion Jnr. and William. He then had the sons execute documents that gave him control of the land until his death. It appears that Sion and his sons all die within a few years and the problems arise between the widows. Beady and Moriah WIGGINS (nee Rabon), Sion Jnr.'s widow, are long time members of the Salem Baptist Church in Marlboro. A committee is appointed to look into the problems between the women. First one then the other is ordered to appear before the congregation. As a result of these problems, Beady is eventually excluded from membership. The church records do not contain any Birth, Marriage, or Death records. Only gossip and membership lists. The membership list appears to perhaps be perpetual. A name is added and then notes are added to that line when the person dies, is excluded, moves off, etc. Unfortunately, these notes are seldom dated. In the day-to-day gossip records, we can determine a date for happenings. In the membership list Beady is still listed as AMMONS and a note indicates 'excluded'. Moriah goes from being listed as a Rabon in the membership roll to a Wiggins in the gossip section. The only real connection is that her mother, Mary Rabon is living with Moriah Wiggins in the 1850 census. My research in Marlboro Co. stems from a Charles T. Wiggins (age 21) and a S.D. Wiggins (age 23) showing up in 1860 Wilcox Co. AL. Both are shown to have been born in SC. A search of AL and SC 1850 census records points to Marlboro Co. as the closest match. On the 1840 Marlboro census Sion WIGGINS Jnr. is enumerated with wife (20-30), one daughter (5-10), and three sons (two 5-10, one 0-5). A Sophia WIGGINS is enumerated (20-30) as Head of Household with one son (0-5) and one daughter (0-5). This is assumed to be the widow of William H. WIGGINS. On the 1850 Marlboro Co. census, Moriah WIGGINS is listed as Head of Household, with one daughter (16), and two sons Robert (13) and Stephen (15). Charles WIGGINS (age 12) is enumerated on the same page living with the James and Charlotte Carlisle family. Sophia WIGGINS is not found on the 1850 census. Two WIGGINS children who might be hers are listed with the John and Ann Taylor family. I have never been able to find anything that proves the connection to Charles T. WIGGINS in AL. If you can provide even the slightest insight it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ted & Joyce

Hi Ted, I am also researching the Marlboro County Ammons family - the Joshua Ammons family. I am descended from Allen Ammons (he was the father of Fannie Ammons Driggers - my great-grandmother) - hope we have some connection. I am taking care of my 84 year father who has recently had surgery and I don't have the time to spend on research right now but maybe I have some information in my files that can help you. Thanks! Hi Fred: I saw your message to Ron and it rang a bell. I have been researching CONNER in Marlboro SC GENWEB and found a query from Barbara Harrell <[email protected]> re: Charles COTTINGHAM who married Nancy Ann CONNOR the daughter of Thomas and Ann Beverly CONNER my ggggggparents. I found the 1790 census of Cheraw Destrict, later Marlboro Co., and it shows a Charles COTTINGHAM just above my gggggf Lewis CONNER. Also There is a Tho CONNER shown on the same page. I hope this information will be of some help. If you would like I will make a copy of the census page and send to you if you will send me your snail mail address. HTL"Pat" Connor San Dimas, Ca.

Hello, Ted, and greetings to the SCMARLBO-L group: Ted, I saw your reply to Stephanie's note regarding land records in which you mentioned the Ammons family as one of those of interest to you. I have an Ammons line going back to Joshua Ammons in Marlboro Co., a Revolutionary War veteran, so I wouldn't be too surprised if our Ammons lines have a common origin. My other family lines in Marlboro Co are: Bridges, Hargrove, and Cottingham. I would be happy to exchange information on any of these families. My best regards to all, Ron Bullock ([email protected])
Hi Stephanie, Sorry, I do not have access to the records but have done son research in Marlboro Co. during that period. There are Salem Baptist Church records for just after that time that have been microfilmed and are available from LDS. The names that I was researching were: WIGGINS AMMONS CARLISLE RABON (or RAYBURN) What are your names, I may remember seeing them. Ted
Hi Ted, I and quite a few others are researching the Shadrack Fuller family. I am interested in Shadrack's son Simeon Fuller b. 1772 in NC.
