    3. Hi Marlboro Is there anyone on the list who is familiar with the BENNETT family of Marlboro Co? There is some suspicion that a Mary BENNETT MAY have married Charles BRIGHT of Marlboro Co say 1780ish. First known child b 1782. See the following deed: DB 6/p. 52 10 Feb 1789--Samuel Ferebee and Sarah his wife and Griffith Douge and Frances his wife of Currituck to Charles Bright, yeoman of the same, land purchased jointly by them under the confiscation act, John Bennett's property, for 195 pounds, 129 acres and 3/4 in Moyock District, Nancy Douge's line, James Ferebee's corner, Goodman's corner, Silas Bright's line. w/ William Ferebee T.C. Ferebee Registered 10 Dec 1789 This is a comment by another BRIGHT researcher. John Bennett was apparently a loyalist during the Revolutionary War and his property was confiscated due to his collaboration. Interesting that two families jointly purchased part of the property and that both husbands and their wives had to execute the deed. Makes you wonder if they might have married John Bennett's daughters. I am wondering if there is a Mary who might fit the bill? Thanks very much julie [email protected]

    3. >Dear Marsha, Actually, I think the age thing may work in favor of this being the right Martha A. If I have the dates in my mind right, Martha A., daughter of Bennett, would have been around 30 when she married. If this was her first marriage at an age a little above average for that time and place, she might have been a little more inclined to marry a man who was older. Are you on the Marion County listserv? There are a few folks on that system who seem to know a fair amount about the Jackson family which spanned the two old counties. David Jackson is one of these. Of course, you may already have been in touch with him. If you haven't or if you haven't posted to that list, it might be worthwhile. Good luck! 3. I checked all of the books in my modest library on Marlboro Co.SC and found nothing on John Crouch and Mary Ann Jackson. Sorry. I'll continue to keep an eye out for them. I do not have any census records. Wish I did. Does anyone know of a book that has them all listed? Would be a good project for someone. 2. Larry, Well, I think this could be the one, however, my John Crouch married her in 1859, and he would have been in his sixties. Was it feasible for back then to marry young women? His first wife had died and I guess he was looking for a companion. He died in 1869. I haven't been able to find any info on any Jackson family that would fit the age frame for her. If this is the only one, I guess it could be her. They married in Marlboro, SC. Do you know how I would find any record on it? Thanks so much for sharing this information. Most books on the history of that area actually cover a much earlier period. I did look in Ancestral Keys to the PeeDee but found nothing. 3. IVEY/IVY, ODOM & EASTERLING families in MARLBORO SC about 1850... I am interested in info on the families of James E. Odom and E. Easterling, both listed as farmers in the 1850 Marlboro Census. My GGgrandfather Enoch Ivey is shown in this same census as 18 yrs old, laborer and residing with the the Odom family. His brother James Ivey shown is age 20 as laborer with the Easterling family in same census. The rest of Enoch's family is also in same census under their father Isaiah Ivey's name. THE INTERESTING thing is that most of them left SC for Cherokee AL (they're in 1860 census there) (Enoch alone went on to DeSoto MS he married there in 1859 and stayed) they left between 1851 and 1858 EXCEPT James, who still shows in Marlboro census' 1860 & 1870. I'd love to know who he married, why he stayed behind and where he's buried, if he died in SC or moved on after 1870. any info or clues on who to ask would be MUCH appreciated ---------- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Subject: SCMARLBO-D Digest V99 #18 Date: Sunday, May 23, 1999 1:22 AM
