    2. NICHOLS | Mr. Hybert Neauzon Strickland Sr., 83, entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 15, 2008 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Mr. Strickland was born September 10, 1924 in Horry County, South Carolina, the son of the late Sam Craven and Belle Gerald Strickland. He was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather. He was known by his great-grands as ''Pa.'' He will be loved and missed by all, especially his family. Mr. Strickland was a retired farmer, and a World War II veteran, where he served with the 3rd Marine Division in Pearl Harbor, Guam, and China. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. Mr. Strickland was preceded in death by two brothers, Keith Strickland and Hollis Strickland; and by one sister, Lonita Strickland-Webb. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Brittie Blanton Strickland; one son, Hybert ''Bert'' N. Strickland Jr. and wife, Carolyn, of Pleasant View; two daughters, Joyce Strickland Elliott and husband, Gene, of Loris, and June Kay Strickland Small and husband, Clayton, of Pleasant View; and one sister, Myrna S. Ammons of Conway. Mr. Strickland is also survived by six grandchildren, Brandie Strickland of Pleasant View, Hybert N. Strickland III and wife, Deana, of Florence, Dewitt Elliott and wife, Caroline, and Jennifer Elliott Powell and husband, Brett, all of Loris, Clayton Small Jr. and wife, Sunaco, of Conway, and Kala Small of Pleasant View; eight great-grandchildren, Brent, Sam, and Carolina Carlucci of Pleasant View, Kennedy and Luke Elliott and Reagan Powell of Loris, and Allie and Ransome Strickland of Florence; several special brothers and sisters-in-law, Doug and Miriam Blanton, Jim and Catherine Blanton, Wade and Jeanette Blanton, Dorothy B. White, and Matilda H. Blanton; and several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Shepherd Care Hospice, especially Debbie Ammons, caregiver, Bree Ammons, and Virginia Garris. Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2008 at Pleasant Vi ew Baptist Church with the Rev. John Forbes officiating and eulogy by James C. Blanton. Burial with military honors will follow at the Blanton Cemetery.
