MULLINS — Flora Belle Rouse Kirby, 86, widow of Lex McNeil Kirby, died Sunday, August 17, 2008 at McLeod Hospice House in Florence. Mrs. Kirby was born February 20, 1922 in Marlboro County. She was the daughter of the late James M. and Mary Amanda Butler Rouse. She was a member of Little Bethel Baptist Church and the Ladies Bible Class. Survivors include her daughter, Mary AnnKirby Baker and her husband Michael H. Baker, Sr. of Mullins; 4 grandchildren, Michael H. Baker, Jr. and Brent of St. Pete Beach, Fla., Kirby Russell Baker and his wife Lisa of Nasville,Tn. and Flora Teneile Baker Alleman and her husband Dustin of Bluffton; 5 great grandchildren, Griffith Michael and Camden Alexander Baker, Anna Caileena and Belle Landry Alleman and Lex Thomas Baker; cousins, Pearl Rouse Jackson of Marion and Rosalee McNeil of Raeford, N.C.; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 2 brothers, James Lester Rouse and David Kelly Rouse. The family wishes to thank Dolly King, friend, and the staff of Mullins Nursing Center for the loving care they provided. Also they wish to offer a note of thanks to the caretakers at McLeod Hospice House for their comfort and understanding. The family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 2:30 until 4:00 P.M. at the Little Bethel Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 P.M. in the Little Bethel Baptist Church sanctuary, with the Rev. Mike Watkins and the Rev. Glenn Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Devotion Gardens Cemetery, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home.
