Herbert Rowell, Jr., 86, of Ridgeville, SC, died Saturday, July 26, 2008 at a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at Parks Funeral Home Chapel, Thursday afternoon, July 31, 2008 at 12:30 pm. Burial will be held at Bonne Rest Cemetery. Friends may call at Parks Funeral Home Thursday from 11 o'clock until time of service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Francis Willis SPCA, P. O. Box 1116, Summerville, SC 29484. Mr. Rowell was born October 29, 1921 in Marion, SC, a son of Herbert William Rowell, Sr. and Mary Josephine Thrower Rowell. He served in the US Navy and was a decorated veteran of World War II. He was the owner and operator of Pine Crest Grocery Store. He truly loved life and was devoted to his family and friends. He was a blessing to anyone who knew him and will be remembered as a true southern gentleman. Mr. Rowell was predeceased by his parents, a sister, Ira Mae R. Hileman and Katherine S. Dickson, his companion for 36 years. Survivors include his brother, John W. Rowell of Ridgeville; sister, Vera R. Lawrence of Surfside Beach, SC; stepdaughter, Mary Katherine D. Inman and husband Wayne of Georgetown, SC; two stepsons, Plowden Dickson, Jr. and wife Rosslyn. of James Island, SC, Charles S. Dickson and wife Oradell of Sumter, SC; several step-grandchildren; several step great-grandchildren; and two great-great twin step-granddaughters on the way; two nephews, James E. Todd of Surfside Beach, SC, Whitman Rowell of Ridgeville; two nieces Pamela Lewis and husband Wade of Ridgeville, Kimberly Nava and husband Steve of Cary, NC; and several great nieces and great nephews.
