MULLINS — Mr. William Edward Martin, 70, died Friday, July 25, 2008 at McLeod Hospice House in Florence, after a courageous fight with lung cancer. He was the son of the late Dr. Guy and Myrtle Harper Martin. Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Juanita Carter Martin of the home; a twin sister, Helen Stafford and her husband Walter of Macon, Ga.; 2 sons, William Billy Martin and his wife Crystal of Concord, N.C. and Guy Martin and his wife Tracy of Fort Mill; a Stepson, Harry Carter and his wife Kathy of Hilton Head; 5 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren. Mr. Martin was retired from the United States Air Force, served as minister for Trinity Methodist Church in Wilmington, N.C. and was a journalist for the Florence Morning News. He was an active member of the Mullins First Baptist Church, the American Legion Post 89 and worked tirelessly for disabled veterans. Mr. Martin was an avid reader and history buff, especially Civil War history. He was a gentle, caring individual who cherished his time with family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, July 27 at Mullins First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jim Kirkland officiating. Burial will follow in Cedardale Cemetery, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon from 1 until 2:30 P.M. in the Mullins First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
