GAINESVILLE, Fla. | Mrs. Lillian Alford Sawyer, 96, widow of Joe Harvey Sawyer died Thursday evening, Sept. 21, 2006 at University Place Care after an illness. Mrs. Sawyer was born in Marion, a daughter of the late Ellis Alford and Ellen Atkinson Alford. She was also predeceased by a son, Joe Lee Sawyer; a daughter, Gertrude Joye; an infant daughter, Mary Sawyer; a brother, Edward Alford; and two sisters, Kate Gasque and Clara Bell Best. Mrs. Sawyer was a member of Myrtle Beach First Baptist Church and an associate member of Belin United Methodist Church in Murrells Inlet. She was the Lunch Cafeteria Supervisor at Lakewood Elementary School in Surfside Beach for more than 20 years. Surviving are a son, John Harvey Sawyer of Davenport, Iowa; two daughters, Debbie Clement and her husband, Donald, of Myrtle Beach and Bobbi Walton and her husband, Paul, of Gainesville, Fla.; a son-in-law, Cleveland Joye of Garden City Beach; a daughter-in-Iaw, Dorothy Sawyer of Conway; a special granddaughter, Autumn MaGaha of Myrtle Beach; 13 other grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006 at Little Bethel Baptist Church in Marion with entombment to follow in the church cemetery at a later date.
