Margaret M. Owens Margaret Melton Owens, 79, widow of James Hoyt Owens, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at home after an illness. She was born April 26, 1922, in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Ada Register Melton. She was co-founder of Golden Years Nursing Home, now Marion Nursing Center. She was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse and a previous owner of a children's and ladies' dress shop in Marion. She was a member of Reedy Creek Baptist Church, where she was active in Women's Missionary Union and a former teacher of the Lillian Hilliard Sunday school class. Survivors include three daughters, Elaine O. White and her husband, Aubrey, Janet O. Brown and her husband, Jerry, and Shamra O. Richardson and her husband, Calvin, all of Marion; a sister, Addie Pope of Hartsville; seven grandchildren, Kevan White, Greg White, Jenny Brown, Donna White, Wade Gasque, Stefanie Richardson, and Laura Richardson; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Smith-Collins Funeral Home in Marion. The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Reedy Creek Baptist Church. The Revs. Darrell Floyd and Guy Langston will officiate. Burial will be in Reedy Creek Cemetery.
