Bill, I would really like to hear from Mike and Susan McAlister. I am not a McAlister descendent, but I suspect that the spouses of Wm. J. and T.J. were the sisters of my 2g-gf and 2g-gm. So far I've been unable to find anything but circumstantial evidence however -- I was hoping someone might have information that would prove or disprove my speculations. T.J. McAlister, in particular, purchased several items from the estate of Samuel C. James, my 3g-gf. In the 1870 census, Joseph James, a son of Samuel C. James, was living with the family of T.J. and Martha McAlister (it's listed as "G.J." on the 3 Rivers transcription of the census, but seems to be the correct family). Also, S.C. James had a daughter Martha of the right age to be Martha McAlister. As I say, right now, everything I have is circumstantial, but I'd like to be able to prove or disprove my speculation, and I was hoping someone would have information that would enable me to do that. If I'm correct, I do have further information on the JAMES family that would hopefully be helpful to other James descendents. I don't know that I'd be of any help on the McAlister side, but considering all the intermarriages in these families, you never can tell! Donali, I see where the persons that I sent copies to did not appear in the return message to the list. Just as well, because Mike & Suzanne McAllister must have changed their E-mail server, as the copy of our correspondence that I sent them was returned. Their mailing address is 805 Broad Street West, Wilson, NC 27893-3032. Jeff McAllister's E- address is jeffmcallister@coxnc.rr.com. I seem to recall several years ago someone, probably Jeff, mentioning what you are talking about with a McAlister buying something at a Marion County estate sale or perhaps I saw it in the 3 Rivers McAlister folder but I couldn't make any connection with any of my family from NC and was satisfied that it was a McAlister in the CMA J11 line. I also read somewhere that the gunman, Jesse James of the infamous James Gang, had a McAlister relation, so this might be the connection. Will send a copy of this to the CMA genealogist emeritus to see if he can remember the origin of the article that I believe appeared in the clan journal some years ago. If you can't reach Mike & Suzanne, Jeff should be able to help you. Thank you for sharing your theory as the dearth of good records in this area oftentimes require such deductive reasoning, especially to find spouses names.
