MARION Christine E. Jones Christine Evans Jones, 92, widow of Howard B. Jones, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at Lexington Medical Center after an illness. She was born Nov. 30, 1908, in Marion County, the youngest and last surviving of seven children born to Charles and Edgar Evans and Sophia Miles Evans. She graduated from Marion High School and played on the 1923 Lassie Foxes basketball team, who were undefeated state champions. She was a graduate of Johnston Willis Hospital Nursing Program in Richmond, Va., and served as a Navy nurse at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital. She was actively involved in her church, the Marion Presbyterian Church, and volunteered countless hours in support of many community activities and charitable organizations. She was a member of the DAR, the Azalea Garden Club and the Lantern Book Club. Survivors include two sons, Dr. Charles C. Jones of Columbia and Howard Evans Jones of Lexington; a daughter, Cheryl J. Johnson of Irmo; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Smith-Collins Funeral Home in Marion. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Marion Presbyterian Church. Dr. William Barton will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Marion Presbyterian Church, P.O.
