    2. 20 July 2001 Charleston Post & Courier Mr. Kelly Bob Sawyer, Sr., 71, husband of Esther Richardson Sawyer, died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at his residence after an illness. Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m., Friday, July 20, at Mullins-Marion Freewill Baptist Church, with Rev. William C. Jacobs officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Reedy Creek Cemetery, directed by SMITH-COLLINS FUNERAL HOME. Mr. Sawyer was born September 9, 1929, in Marion County, a son of the late Lonnie and Nina Turner Sawyer. Mr. Sawyer was the founder and owner of Sawyer Construction Company. Mr. Sawyer retired from the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant after 22 years of service, having served in the Korean War and the Viet Nam War. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Sawyer attended the Mullins-Marion Freewill Baptist Church. Surviving, Mr. Sawyer in addition to his wife of the home are, his children, Nina Teresa White of Mt. Pleasant, Darlene Sawyer Heckman and her husband Perry of Marion, Kelly Bob Sawyer, Jr., and his wife Peggy of Marion, Connie Sawyer Johnson and her husband Kenneth of Mullins, Dondi C. Sawyer and his wife Rachael of Long Beach, Miss., Kimberly Sawyer Jacobs and her husband Tony of Demorest, Ga., Shannon White Jacobs and her husband Timothy of Marion and Shelley White Martin and her husband Buddy of Marion; 21 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; two brothers, Freddie Sawyer of Columbia and Larry Sawyer of Arizona; and seven sisters, Bertha Mae Harrelson of Sumter, Mary Bell Garris of Lake View, Minnie Walker of Florence, Doris Jean Coleman of Nichols, Bobbie Britt of Mullins, Joanne Black of Charlotte, N.C., and Faye Hamilton of Columbia. Mr. Sawyer was predeceased by two sons, Jeffrey Sawyer and Tom Sawyer. Memorials may be made to the Mullins-Marion Freewill Baptist Church Christian School, 214 Drew Road, Mullins, S.C. 29574.
