On a recent posting to the Marion List I inadvertently added an extra name to the Barfields listed in the 1763 Bladen County, NC Tax List. I have since gone back and pulled out the list, which I should have done before sending out that message. Upon looking at the list again, I also re-discovered that it was in loose alphabetical order, thus was almost certainly a copy of some previous document or loose returns. The Bladen tax list, including all Barefields shown in 1763, reads more fully and much more accurately: Barefield David 1 - - 1 Barefield Richd. Joshua Nathan Barefield & Josia 4 2 - 6 Barefield Roger 1 - - 1 The first number given is white polls. Unsure of other three numbers, column headings are illegible on my copy from the NC Archives. Some would be black polls, male and female. White females were not taxed. ===================================================== You will notice that Thomas Barfield/Barefield was NOT on that list - wishful thinking on my part, I suppose.
