    3. Hi ya'll, Does "Sloan Sodas, Marion, SC" ring any bells? The most interesting story/query came my way. Someone found a heavy glass bottle, marked with the above, in the ocean at Myrtle Beach and I believe they're hoping to learn just how old, or new, the bottle would be. While it isn't genealogy, per se, it is interesting, I think, and I'd enjoy knowing more about what I assume is a local bottling company (like the ones in Dillon). Cheers, Victoria

    3. I don't know about Sloan Soda's, but the owner of the Coca Cola Bottling Company in Marion was Cyrus T. Sloan (C.T. Sloan). The Sloans lived in a huge house on Withlacoochee Avenue in Marion. The old bottling company was on Railroad Avenue in Marion, across from what was then the Marion Star and the Railroad Depot. (I haven't been to Marion in many years so this is an old recollection!) I remember going there with my dad to pick up a case of cokes on many occasions. If you look at my website, Cousinconnections.com, there is a copy of a check from the Coca Cola Bottling Company (Actually the reason I bought that old check on EBay was because my family somehow was connected to the Farmers and Merchants Bank - but I can't find anyone who knows how - I just remember my grandfather mentioning it.) Anyway this check was written in 1914. I guess Mr. Sloan's father or grandfather owned the bottling company then. --Lisa ----- Original Message ----- From: "Victoria" <vproc@ix.netcom.com> To: <SCMARION-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, July 10, 2001 5:51 PM Subject: [SCMARION-L] Sloan Sodas > Hi ya'll, > > Does "Sloan Sodas, Marion, SC" ring any bells? > > The most interesting story/query came my way.
