    3. The State (Columbia): Friday, July 20, 2001 Dr. William Wheeler DILLON (--) Services for Dr. William W. Wheeler, 87, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2001 at Kannaday's Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 this evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Pee Dee, 555 E. Cheves St., Florence, SC 29506 or to First Presbyterian Church, 200 E. Harrison St., Dillon, SC 29536. Dr. Wheeler died Thursday, July 19, 2001 at home after a long and valiant battle with cancer. Born in Sharpsville, Pa., April 21, 1914, he was the eldest of seven children of the late Paul and Mary Wheeler. Surviving are Rose Ellis, Edward and James of Pennsylvania and Phillip of Washington. He was predeceased by brothers George of California and Paul of Alabama. After graduation from Logan School of Chiropractic in St. Louis, Dr. Wheeler practiced chiropractic in Dillon for the past 50 years. He was a veteran of World War II and a former Pennsylvania State Trooper. During his lifetime, he was active in various civic and community organizations, including the South Carolina Chiropractic Asociation, American Legion, Rotary Club, Boy Scouts of America and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Dillon. He was an avid non-fiction reader and an amateur writer. His favorite pasttimes were gardening, creating his own fishing lures and fishing the Carolina ponds and waterways. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Evelyn Pyle Wheeler; son, Wayne and his wife, Frankie, of Columbia; daughter, Elaine and her husband, Alan Sanner, of Charleston; daughter, Linda and her husband, Ronald Chambers, of Marco Island, Fla; granddaughters, Beth Luther and Amy (Mrs. Scott Wilford) and three great- grandchildren, all of Pennsylvania.
