Betty, Elona & Jo, Thanks for the info on the Gales. I just keep grasping for ties from Marion Co. SC and Marion Co. FL!! I do know that Marion Co. FL was named for Marion Co. SC and ultimately Francis Marion. Marion Co. , Alachua Co. & Putnam County, Florida all come together in an area near where I grew up. My oldest Price ancestor (Laban Price) served in the Civil War out of Orange Springs, Florida, which is in Marion Co. FL, a few miles south of his homestead, which was in Putnam Co., FL. This is also the area near where Marjorie Kinan Rawlings wrote her book The Yearling (Cross Creek) if anyone is interested. Cathy

Cathy, The Price's weren't the only family to tie those two counties together in time. My GGrandfather, William David "Major" Lamb, moved to Marion County, SC around the mid-1800s and raised eight sons. Eventually, all eight sons moved to Marion County, FL (Anthony) and that's where most lived the rest of their lives. After Major Lamb's wife (Elizabeth Jane "Lizzie" Moody Lamb) died in Marion County, SC, he went to visit his sons in Florida and soon after died. He is buried in Anthony, located between Ocala and Cross Creek (Rawlings' home).
