But you will notice that the county of record is Jefferson County, Florida. Then the document was brought to Marion County, SC and recorded here. The way it reads, I would suspect that Marion Florida is a town in Jefferson County. It did NOT say Marion County Florida, cause I remember it caught my eye when I first read it in the deedbook. Of course, it could have been that terribly careless courthouse clerk again, who maybe wrote Florida when he meant to write South Carolina? I just took a look at mapquest.com. There is a Marion, Florida about midway between Tallahassee and Jacksonville. Could it be that Jefferson County covered that area in 1849? I think Leon was cut from Jefferson, or was it vice versa? There is quite a bit about Absolom Jolly and Rhoda Goodyear on the Alachua (sp?) County, Florida Genweb page. At least there was. Haven't looked there in awhile. I'm not sure if anyone has figured out who her parents were. Moses Hill, originally from Robeson, sold out his lands in Marion (SC) on Little Pee Dee River near the Horry County line in 1830 to Hardy Lewis, and moved with several of his relations to Jefferson County, FL. With him were his daughter Elizabeth Stephens (divorced wife of Ebenezer Stephens of Robeson), his grandson-in-law David P.F. Newsom, who had owned large tracts of land on both sides of the river around present day Gilchrist Bridge (in fact, Gilchrist purchased the old Newsom tracts around the bridge). (Per various Robeson and Marion County deeds and census records, Jefferson County FL census records. Also Jefferson County, FL will of Moses Hill courtesy of Harry Jones.) I'm sure others from this area went to Jefferson as well. Just can't remember who. Jo Church Dickerson
