    3. The State (Columbia): Friday, July 20, 2001 Alan Schafer DILLON (--) Private graveside services for Alan Heller Schafer, 87, will be held for family and close friends. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 22, 2001 in the Convention Center at South of the Border directed by Cooper Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Dillon County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1328, Dillon, SC 29536 or to American Red Cross Dillon Chapter, P.O. Box 538, Little Rock, SC 29567-0538. Mr. Schafer died Thursday, July 19, 2001 at his residence. Born in Baltimore, January 12, 1914, he was the son of the late Samuel Iseman Schafer and Wilhelmenia Heller Schafer. He was owner of South of the Border, Schafer Distributing Company, and life long resident of Dillon County, and a member of Beth Israel Synagogue. Surviving are his wife, Patricia Campbell Schafer of Dillon; sons, William H. Schafer, Richard H. Schafer, and Frederick R. Schafer, all of Dillon; sister, Evelyn S. Hechtkopf of Dillon; brothers, Charles A. Schafer of Augusta, Ray Schafer of New York City, and Joseph M. Schafer of Dillon; five grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; nine faithful canine friends. Mr. Schafer was preceded in death by his son, John Quintin Schafer.
