The Sun News 7/8/2001 SUMTER Carolyn T. Edwards Carolyn T. Edwards, 77, died Saturday, July 7, 2001, at Tuomey Healthcare System. She was born in Mullins, a daughter of the late Frank Austin Thompson and the late Donna Coleman Thompson. She was a graduate of Conway High School and Coker College in Hartsville. She moved to Sumter in 1950. Her many civic activities included volunteer work with the U.S.O., Red Cross and Hospice. She was a past president of the Junior Welfare League. She served on the board of trustees of Coker College and Spartanburg Methodist College. She was a former board member and volunteer swim instructor of the YMCA, where she received the Humanitarian of the Year Award. She served as a Guardian Ad Litem and on the board of directors for the Salvation Army. She volunteered with the handicapped children and transcribed books into Braille for the blind. She was the organist for Aldersgate United Methodist Church for more than 25 years and served on the board of trustees. She also volunteered as an organist in many of the area churches and was a delegate to S.C. United Methodist Conference. Survivors include two sons, Richard T. Edwards of Surfside Beach, and Frank O. Edwards and his wife, Vicky, of Sumter; two brothers, Phillip A. Thompson and John C. Thompson, both of Conway; a sister, Sara T. Finlayson of Conway; and four grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth Edwards, Thomas Allen Edwards, Brystol Lane Henderson, and Cade Dean Henderson and his wife, Tiffany. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Dr. Louis Jamison and the Rev. Bill Rogers will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank O. Edwards, 20 Hunters Point Court in Sumter. Memorials may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church Choir Fund. Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home in Sumter is in charge.
