LATTA Mary `Betty' Gasque Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Benton Gasque, 84, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, at Marion Medical Center. She was born Nov. 16, 1916, in Puyallup, Wash., a daughter of the late Edgar Augustus Benton and Blanche Altamae Peacock Benton. She was reared in Hanson, Mass. She was a graduate of Whitman High School and Brockton Business College. She was a secretary for the federal government in Washington, D.C. at the Italian Division of the Office of Secret Service. She was a member of Latta United Methodist Church and the Josephine Stackhouse Circle. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Retired Judge Samuel Norwood Gasque Sr.; two sons, Samuel Norwood Gasque Jr. and his wife, Marilyn, of Flat Rock, N.C. and Paul Edgar Gasque and his wife, Laura, of Latta; two daughters, Judith Anne Gasque Moody of Florence and Nancy Ruth Gasque Finklea and her husband, Buzzy, of Latta; a sister, Glenna Ruth Oksanen of Halifax, Mass.; six grandchildren, Jesse James Brigman III and his wife, Jennifer, Nancy Elizabeth "Betsy" Finklea, Belva Jenkinson Britt and her husband, Andy, Tracy Fore Finklea, Paul Conan Gasque and Lauren Elizabeth Gasque, all of Latta; and a great-granddaughter, Savannah Victoria Britt of Latta. She was predeceased by a son, James Robert Gasque. Visitation will be from 7-9 tonight at Kannaday's Funeral Home in Latta. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Latta United Methodist Church.
