MARION | Mr. Harmon Atkinson, 81, died Saturday, September 6, 2008 in a local hospital. Mr. Atkinson was born in Horry County, South Carolina, a son of the late William Woodbury and Maybell Tindal Atkinson. He graduated from Brittons Neck High School and is a veteran, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was also a member of Union Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Cooke Atkinson of the home; three sons, Dennis Atkinson of Conway, Sid Atkinson of Myrtle Beach, and Dale Atkinson of Lexington, Ky.; a daughter, Deanna Atkinson Williams of Nashville, Tenn.; two brothers, David Atkinson of Brittons Neck and Clifton Atkinson of Darlington; two sisters, Mrs. Julia Bell Richardson of Brittons Neck and Mrs. Eloise A. Ammons of Marion; and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, Herbert B. Atkinson and Winston Jessie Atkinson; and two sisters, Wanda Atkinson and Dora Letha Atkinson. Funeral services for Harmon Atkinson will be 4 p.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at Union Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
