Eastern Daylight Time, PAPrice3993@aol.com writes: FLORENCE — Katherine McKenzie Plummer passed away Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008. She was born in Dillon County on May 26, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Brunson McKenzie and Addie Carter McKenzie. She grew up in Dillon and came to Florence in 1960. She graduated from Dillon High School in 1950. She was employed by BellSouth for 37 years, retiring in June 1987. She then worked for two years with Arronic Answering Service. After that she worked for McLeod Regional Medical Center for eight years, retiring March 28, 1997. She then went on to work for Carolinas Hospital System for one and a half years, after which she fully retired Jan. 1, 1999. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and a member of the Telephone Pioneers. She enjoyed baking and was noted for her 11-layer chocolate cake and simply enjoyed living. She is survived by her two sisters, Janice McKenzie and Dorothy (Hagood) Watson of Dillon; three brothers, Richard McKenzie of Dillon, Gene (Peggy) McKenzie of Mullins and Bill (Kathleen) McKenzie of Lake View; five nieces, two great-nephews and eight great-nieces who she dearly loved; and a special friend, Helen McDaniel of Dillon. Memorials may be made to the S.C. Commission for the Blind, c/o Cynthia Moore, 217 W. Dozier Blvd., Florence, SC 29501 or to New Hope Baptist Church, P.O. Box 4860, Florence, SC 29501. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, in Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
