MULLINS — Mrs. Magdalene Sawyer Drew, 80, wife of Eugene Drew, died Friday, December 5, 2008 at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence after an illness. She was born July 11, 1928 in Marion County, a daughter of the late Olin Maloy Sawyer, Sr. and the late Ernestine Collins Sawyer. Mrs. Drew was a member of the Marion Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class. She held many offices in her local church as well as in the association. Mrs. Drew helped to organize a church media library and volunteered each summer to work in the White Oak Library. She helped with the collecting of material and publishing of two church histories. Mrs. Drew graduated from the Southern Baptist Seminary Extension Department in 1980. Mrs. Drew was a member of the Auxiliary of the Marion Camp of Gideons and a member of the Tranquil Homemakers Club for many years, where she held office in her local club as well as on the county level. She held craft classes with clients at the Spring Branch Residential Center. In 1988, Mrs. Drews family represented Marion County as the Family of the Year and in 1992, she was chosen Homemaker of the Year for Marion County. Surviving Mrs. Drew in addition to her Husband of 62 years are: 2 Daughters: Cynthia Faulk and her husband Ray of Mullins and Teresa Emory and her husband Wayne Edwards of Burnsville, N.C.; 5 Grandchildren: Dr. Jennifer Brown and her husband Corey, Dr. Julie Faulk, Jason Faulk, Lindsey Edwards and Derek Edwards; 2 Brothers: William Howard Sawyer of Marion and B.J. Sawyer of Charlotte, N.C.; and 4 Sisters: Mary Alice Meridth of Johnsonville, Sarah Lawton of Myrtle Beach, Shelby Boette and her husband Emory of Columbia and Hazel Rogers of Mullins. Mrs. Drew was predeceased by a grandson, Dylan Edwards and a brother, Olin Maloy Sawyer, Jr. Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon from 2 until 3:00 P.M. at the Marion Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 P.M. in the church sanctuary, with Dr. Denley Caughman and Rev. Bobby Byrd officiating. Burial will follow in Devotion Gardens Cemetery, directed by Smith-Collins Funeral Home of Marion. Memorials amy be made to The Gideons, P.O.
