Cheraw - Services for Charles Warren Davis, Jr., 97, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2008 at St. David's Episcopal Church in Cheraw, SC. Officiating will be The Reverend William D. Oldland. Burial will follow in Old St. David's Cemetery, Cheraw. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday, December 18, 2008 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC. Memorials may be made to St. David's Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 926, Cheraw, SC 29520 or St. David's Cemetery Association, PO Box 1196, Cheraw, SC 29520. Mr. Davis died Monday, December 15, 2008. Born February 1, 1911 in Mullins, SC, he was the son of the late Charles Wylie Davis and Leila Walker Myers Davis. Mr. Davis was a graduate of the University of South Carolina. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Harlingen, TX as an aerial gunnery instructor. Upon returning to Cheraw, he began his career in business where he remained until his retirement. In retirement he served as chairman of both the Cheraw and Chesterfield County Beautification Commission. He was a member of St. David's Episcopal Church for 67 years where he served as a Sunday School Teacher and member of the vestry. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Margaret Emily Hill Davis, sons Charles Warren Davis, III (Jean), John Walter Davis (Debbie), and his daughter, Margaret Davis Meree (Jim) of Charleston, SC, nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, sisters, Lucille Campbell of Columbia, SC, Leila Rodgers of Florida and sister-in-law Polly Davis of Mullins, SC. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Davis Johnson, brothers, Rufus, George, John, Frank, Marvin and Bill Davis.
