LORIS | Mr. David Ray Stevens, 54, passed away Saturday, November 29, 2008 at his home. After a long, courageous battle with cancer he left this earth to be with Jesus in his eternal heavenly home. David was born December 15, 1953 in Loris, a son of Myrtle Viola Hardee Stevens and the late Phillip Ray Stevens. He was a Christian and a member of Cane Branch Baptist Church. David graduated from Loris High School in 1972. He loved God and his church family, and enjoyed singing in the church choir. David was a hard working man who always had a smile for everyone. He was an employee of Conway Mills for 25 years and then worked at Loris Healthcare System for the last nine years as an electrician. He was always willing to help anyone who needed him. David loved old things, working with his hands, bulldogs, and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. His most earthly treasure was his family. David is survived by his wife, whom he married on May 30, 1992, Cindy Edwards Stevens of Loris; his mother, Myrtle Viola Hardee Stevens of Loris; two children, JoAnne Stevens Turner and her husband, Marty, of Nichols and Mindy Stevens Powell and her husband, Kyle, of Loris; two brothers, Michael Stevens and his wife, Gwen, and Danny Stevens and his wife, Judy, all of Loris; three grandchildren, Anthony Cub Turner of Nichols, and Dylan Ray Powell and Riley Renee Powell, both of Loris; his mother-in-law, Retha Bellamy of Loris; his sister-in-law, Brenda Boyd and her husband, Johnny, of Loris; and many nephews and nieces. The family would like to thank everyone for all the love, help, and support that was shown to David and to them throughout the past year. The family would also like to thank Dr. Robert Stuart and the staff of Hollings Cancer Center, and all the staff of 5 West Medical University of South Carolina Ashley River Tower for all the kind and compassionate care they gave David. May God richly bless each one who had a part in taking care of him. They are also thankful for the staff of Charleston Hope Lodge and the many friends they made while there.
