MULLINS — Daniel Shorty Herring, Jr., 65, husband of Kathy Chesser Herring, died Saturday, December 13, 2008 at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston after an illness. He was born September 14, 1943 in Dillon, a son of the late Daniel and Ruby Carter Herring. Shorty was a retired farmer and avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Ariel Baptist Church. Surviving Shorty in addition to his Wife of the home are: 3 Daughters: Elaine Elliott and her husband Kenneth of Marion, Lisa Huggins and her husband Bruce of Marion and Heather Herring of Mullins; 7 Grandchildren; 3 Great Grandchildren; 3 Sisters: Vera Bryant of Marion, Gwen Daniels of Summerville and Berline Hicks of Johnsonville; and a Brother: David LeGrand Herring and his wife Lilly of Seneca. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Monday, December 15 at Devotion Gardens Cemetery. The services will be directed by Smith-Collins Funeral Home of Marion.
