FORK — Mr. Carroll Eugene “Gene” Sawyer, 68, widower of Doris Tyler Sawyer, died Friday, February 24, 2006, in Marion County Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 26, at the Chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home, with the Rev. Eddie Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Mayers Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Sawyer was born October 21, 1937, in Marion County, a son of the late J.D. and Elma Cooke Sawyer. He was a retired farmer and a member of Fork Presbyterian Church. Surviving Mr. Sawyer are: his children, Angie Hayes of Fork, Julia Watford of Fork, Genia Cox of Fork, Eugene Jones of Mullins, Marilyn McLellan of Rains, Carolyn Lewis of Mullins and Myrtle Jones of Aynor; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mildred Hyatt of Dillon, Phyllis Reaves of Dillon and Betty Lou Hayes of Columbia; and five brothers, James Sawyer of Fork, J.C. Sawyer of Fork, Neal Sawyer of Fork, Robert Sawyer of Aynor and Wayne “Buddy” Lewis of Fork. Visitation will be held Saturday evening from 7 til 9 p.m. at Cox-Collins Funeral Home.
