    2. FLORENCE — Funeral service for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Chancey Page will be conducted 12 Noon Monday, July 27, 2009 at New Ebenezer Baptist Church, 307 S. Ravenel St., Florence. Interment will follow at Florence National Cemetery directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC. Mary, the daughter of the late Bethel and Dorothy Ownes Chancey was born in Mullins, SC on December 25, 1929. She died on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at a local hospital after an illness. She attended and graduated from Palmetto High School in Mullins, SC. After graduation Mary attended the Apex College of Beauty Culture and Hairdressing in Richmond, VA. At an early age Mary joined Nazarene Baptist Church in Mullins, SC. On March 19, 1949 she married Joseph Page. After marriage she moved to Florence, SC and became a member of the New Ebenezer Baptist Church. She served her church in many capacities and was very active in numerous Civic activities. Mary was employed for a number of years at Electro Motive Manufacture. After its closure she went to work for the Department of Mental Retardation/Pee Dee Center where she retired. Mary was always a very active person so she decided she wanted to continue to work after retirement and completed the Certified Nursing Assistant Program. In addition to Marys parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Chancey and a step-brother, Jimmie McDaniel. Survivors include her husband, Joseph Page of the home; four daughters, Jo Ann Page of Florence, SC, Mary L. Page of Houston, TX, Barbara A. Page of Florence, SC and Dorothy B. Page of Houston, TX; one son, Edwin Carl (Carmelita) Page of Houston, TX; five grandchildren, Tabitha (Greg) Thibodeaux and Carland (Darnell) Brooks both of Houston, TX, Sharon Y. Page of Philadelphia, PA, Audra Page of Houston, TX and Jason Page of Arkansas; three great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; extended family and friends.
