FLORENCE — John Johnny Billy Matthews, Jr., age 37, died Friday, July 3, 2009 from a drowning incident. Graveside funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 6, in Florence National Cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home of Darlington. Johnny was born in Florence County, son of John Billy Matthews, Sr. and Vickie Mangum Lane. He served his country with the United States Army and was employed by Industrial Machine. He was a good father who loved and enjoyed his children. Surviving in addition to his father of Effingham and mother of Pamplico, are his children: Nicholas Matthews, Madison Matthews and Dawson Matthews; his sister, Angela (Aaron) Mullins of Florence; his grandmother, Estelle Matthews of Coward ;his step-father, Ronnie Lane; step-mother, Gale Matthews; step-brothers, Chad (Janice) Lane of Spartanburg and David Jackson of Dillon; step sisters, Cristin (Waylon) Watkins of Bishopville, Chanda (Cameron) Mays of Camden, Wendy (Jessie) Henson of Dillon and Christy Beck of Florence.
