WEST COLUMBIA — Funeral services for Warren David Shelley, 77, of West Columbia, will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington on Highway 1, in Lexington, SC. Burial services will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Columbia. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2009 at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Warren was born April 30, 1932 in Marion, SC, and died on July 22, 2009 in Palmetto Baptist Hospital in Columbia. He was the eldest of seven children born to the late Warren David Shelley, Sr. and the late Addie Louise Gregg Shelley. Raised in Marion, SC, he moved to Columbia in 1962 where he became a prominent life insurance agent, earning the distinguished honor of “ Life Member of the Million Dollar Round Table” (MDRT), The Premier Association of Financial Professionals. He was also a member of the “National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors” (NAIFA) and the “Society of Financial Service Professionals” (FSP). His career in the life insurance business spanned fifty-one years. For more than thirty years he represented Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company and achieved the status of Certified Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC). >From a young age Warren showed a keen interest in the Bible and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses at the age of fourteen. He was a spiritual person and a man of strong faith throughout his life. He delighted in studying the Bible and sharing his Bible knowledge with others. As a spiritual man Warren excelled in faith, hope and love, along with other outstanding qualities of the heart, namely; love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faith, mildness, and self control. Warren loved his wife intensely, was an exemplary husband, and had a beautiful fifty-three year marriage. His love and devotion to her, as well as to his son, daughter, and grandson was profound and evident to all. Warren will be greatly and dearly missed. Surviving are his beloved wife, Arline Borruso Shelley; son, David Charles Shelley of Columbia; daughter, Lorraine Helen (Don) Nedwick of Lexington; grandson, Andrew Warren Nedwick of Lexington; brothers, Carlton (Mary) Shelley of Baltimore, MD; Michael Shelley of Blythewood; Dean Shelley of Blythewood; Ronnie (Laura) Shelley of Irmo; sisters, Carolyn (Carl) Brooks of Hopkins; Diana (Smitty) Grant of Mullins, SC; sisters-in-law, Carole (Larry) Bruce of Staten Island, NY; Lee (Gene) Harris of Leesville, SC; along with many dear nieces, nephews, and friends. The family would like to thank the many friends who have shared their memories and expressed their love and appreciation of Warren.
