MULLINS — John Harvey Holt, 83, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Holt was born in Marion County, son of the late Harvey and Mary Anna McCallum Holt. He, along with his father and brother, co-owned and operated Holt Motor Company for over 50 years. He was a member of the Mullins Lions Club for the past 55 years where he served as a past President and had received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award. For over 50 years, he was a Mason with the Little Pee Dee Lodge No.83. Mr. Holt was a past President of the Mullins Chamber of Commerce, and a WWII veteran. He had been a member of IPTAY since 1976, and was a representative for the Marion County area. He was also a faithful member of the Mullins First Baptist Church where he served in several capacities over the years and the Men's Bible Class. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth H. Holt; one brother, Hoyt L. Holt (Avis) of Mullins; two sisters, Catherine Shine of Latta, and Bobbie Cook of Lake View; and ten niece and nephews. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 17, 2009, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Meares Funeral Home of Mullins, and other times at the home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 18, 2009, at Mullins First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Nichols, SC.
