CHAPIN - Nadine Chapman Fetner, 83, of Chapin passed away Sunday, November 23, 2008. She was born June 14, 1925, a daughter of the late Samuel Robeson and Carrie Best Chapman of Mullins. A funeral service will be held 2 o'clock, Wednesday, November 26, 2008, at Chapin United Methodist Church, 415 Lexington Lane, Chapin, with The Rev. Jody Flowers officiating. Mrs. Fetner will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 pm Tuesday evening at CAUGHMAN-HARMAN FUNERAL HOME, CHAPIN CHAPEL, 123 Columbia Ave, Chapin. Shives Funeral Home is assisting the family. Following graduation from Mullins High School in 1942, she moved to Columbia and was a secretary to the Post Exchange officer at Fort Jackson. During World War II, she attended the old Palmetto School of Aeronautics and aircraft mechanics school to work on B-25s at Columbia Army Air Base. While there, she met her future husband, Ed Fetner, an instructor at the school, and they were married in December 1943. In 1973, she and her husband moved from Belvedere in Columbia to Lake Murray near Chapin where they have lived for the past 35 years in Shady Acres. She retired as a margin specialist in 1987 from Merrill Lynch in Columbia. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Edward H. "Ed" Fetner, Jr. and their children, Carolyn Rosa Fetner, Edward H. "Ted" Fetner, III and wife, Debra McLellan Fetner of Charleston; grandchildren, Alissa Claire Fetner of Baltimore and George Samuel Fetner of Charleston and Columbia.
