NICHOLS | Mr. Richard Gordon Johnson, 74, of Nichols died peacefully at his home Thursday, October 16, 2008 with his family by his side. Born November 26, 1933 in Mullins, S.C., a son of the late Mayberry Gordon Johnson, and the late Margaret Dawsey Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a graduate of Clemson University, and worked for the United States Department of Agriculture. After 30 years of service he retired and moved back to his home in the Pleasant View community of South Carolina, where he was a member of the Pleasant View Baptist Chruch. Survivors include his wife, of 57 years, Jean Powell Johnson of the home; one son, Richard A. Johnson and wife, Evie, of Coconut Creek, Fla.; one daughter, Lavana Elston and husband, Marion, of Lake Alfred, Fla; two brothers, Lehman Johnson and Albert Johnson, both of Nichols; four sisters, Sarah Johnson of Nichols, Kay Mauriocourt of Atlanta, Ga., Rose Ventura, and Genell Owens, both of Greenville; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Johnson will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, October 19, 2008 in Hardwick Memorial Chapel with Pastor Doyce Norris officiating. Committal services will follow at Princeville Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday, October 18, 2008 at Hardwick Funeral Home.
