Master Sergeant Jack W. Price, retired, died Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at the age of 94. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 3 PM in Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial, with full military honors, will follow at Grove Hill Cemetery directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5 PM until 7 PM, Friday January 23, 2009 at the funeral home and at all other times at the home. MSG Price was born on March 17, 1914 in Marion County, SC, the son of the late John W. and Minnie Dozier Price. He married Edna Boatwright on April 14, 1942 and moved to Darlington in 1945 where they made their home. He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Darlington and served on Various Committees in many capacities. Mr. Price, along with his brother Laurie Price, was the owner of Price Brothers Used Parts for many years. MSG Price began his military career by serving in the United States Naval Reserve from June 1935 to May 1939. He enlisted in the South Carolina National Guard in May 1939, serving until January 1941. In January 1941 he was inducted into active Federal Service with his unit and remained therein until August 1945. During this period of active duty, he served in the European Theatre of Operations participating in the Italian and North African Campaigns. He Reenlisted in the Army National Guard in February of 1947 and served therein until 1974. His awards and decorations include the Good Conduct Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, American Defense Medal WWII, South Carolina National Guard Medal, the National Guard Retirement Medal, and the Active State Service Medal. MSG Price was predeceased by his brothers, Travis E. Price and Leo C. Price; his sisters, Hazel P. Humphries, Minola P. Richardson and Lois P. Lane; and a son-in-law, Major Jerry E. Hudson, USMC, retired. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Edna Boatwright Price; daughters and son-in-law, Elaine Price Hudson of Charlotte, NC and Jacquelyn Jackie P. (John) Amerson of Darlington; sisters, Miriam Causey of Dillon and Iris Clare Dowling of Lamar, and brother, Laurie Price of Darlington.
