MULLINS — Mrs. Gladys Daniel Smith, 88, widow of Eustice H. Smith, died Thursday, August 17, 2006, in Sunbridge Nursing Center in Siler City, N.C. Graveside services will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, August 20, in Millers United Methodist Church Cemetery. The services will be directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home. Mrs. Smith was born October 18, 1917, in Marion County, a daughter of the late J. French and Golda McCumber Daniel. She was a retired medical assistant. Mrs. Smith was a member of Mullins First Baptist Church. Surviving Mrs. Smith are two daughters, Joy Smith Lane of Siler City, N.C., and Janet Smith Platt of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren, Steven Platt of Hawaii, Lee Platt of Jacksonville, Fla., Stephen B. Lane of Conway, Ashley Lane of Atlanta, Ga., and Katherine Lane of Siler City, N.C.; and a sister, Clara “Mutt” Johnson of Marion. Mrs. Smith was predeceased by four sisters, Lila Kate McQueen, Mary Marsh, Grace Price and Jane Day. Memorials may be made to the Marion County SPCA, 123 Dog and Cat Court, Mullins, SC 29574. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 til 8 p.m. at Cox-Collins Funeral Home and other times at the home of Mrs. Clara “Mutt” Johnson, 401 Woodland Drive, Marion.
