MULLINS - Mr. Clyde Martin “Possum” Richardson, 81, husband of Mary Elizabeth Lowe Richardson, died Friday, June 20, 2008, at his home after an illness. He was born September 5, 1926, in Dillon County, a son of the late Pearlie D. and Georgia Martin Richardson. Mr. Richardson retired from D.C. Franke & Co. of Charleston as a salesman, after 35 years of service. He was a graduate of Mullins High School and a U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Richardson helped organize the Jaycees in Mullins, where he was awarded the “Exhausted Rooster” award for his many years of service. He was a member of Mullins First Baptist Church. Surviving Mr. Richardson, in addition to his wife of 57 years and of the home, are: a daughter, Sherry R. Staley Turner and her husband, Joel, of Laurens; a son, Jimmy C. Richardson and his wife, Jacque, of Sumter; his grandchildren, Elizabeth and Catherine Staley, Web Richardson and his wife, McKenzie, and Caroline R. Collins and husband, Mark; his step-grandchildren, Nancy and John Thomas Turner; his great-grandchildren, Laiklyn and Dawson Richardson and Harttley Collins; a brother, Earl Richardson and his wife, Jewel, of Hartsville; a sister, Margaret R. Collins of Mullins; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Richardson was predeceased by two brothers, Aubrey Williams and Harry Williams; and a sister, Estelle Tucker. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 23, in Cedardale Cemetery, with Dr. Lewis McCormick officiating. The services will be directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the cemetery immediately following the service and at other times at the home of Mr. Jack Webster, 1108 S. Main St., Mullins.
