    2. MULLINS - Mr. James Forrest Ramsey, 82, husband of Hilda Letchworth Ramsey, died Sunday, June 22, 2008, in Carolinas Hospital System in Florence after an illness. He was born March 8, 1926, in Kinston, N.C., a son of the late Arthur Forrest Ramsey and the late Adrienne Louise Ramsey. Mr. Ramsey was in the broadcast business for 60 years and was an avid amateur radio operator, with his ham call being W4MPR. He attended the public schools in Lenoir County, N.C., and was a U.S. Navy veteran, having serving in World War II. Mr. Ramsey had been a resident of Marion County for the last 59 years and served as Mayor of Mullins for 8 years. He was a member of Mullins First Baptist Church. Surviving Mr. Ramsey, in addition to his wife of the home, are 2 sons: James Forrest Ramsey II and his wife Leslie of Round Lake, Ill., and Arthur Clinton Ramsey and his wife Jane of Mullins; two grandsons: Father Joseph Ramsey of Cullum, Ala., and Mack Marsh and his wife Dana of Floydale; two sisters: Jeanne Byrd and her husband Ralph of Silver Spring, Md., and Nancy Balaban and her husband Frank of Knoxville, Tenn.; one brother, Cabell Ramsey and his wife Barbara of Harkers Island, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Ramsey was predeceased by two brothers: Herbert Ramsey and Harvey Ramsey. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, at the Chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home, with Dr. Kenneth Sandifer and Dr. Lewis McCormick officiating. Burial will follow in Red Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 5-7 at Cox-Collins Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund, c/o Mullins First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 443, Mullins, SC 29574.
