Irene P. Long Irene Phipps Long, 87, of Ninth Avenue, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at Conway Hospital after an illness. She was born in the Maple section of Horry County, a daughter of the late John Andrew and Martha Lane Phipps. She was the widow of J. Reuben Long. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Conway and the Eunice Sunday school class. She was a member of the Iris Garden Club, Nye's Coffee Club and the Wednesday Afternoon Bridge Club. Survivors include a son, Furman Long and his wife, Ann, of Conway; two daughters, Sara Jean Sasser and her husband, Buddy, and Shirley Long Johnson, both of Conway; a brother, Gene Phipps of Conway; a sister, Ethel Ben of Myrtle Beach; eight grandchildren, Dr. Paul Sasser, Tamra S. Erde and Tracy J. Graham, all of Conway, Jean S. Jones of Sterling, Va., Jill L. Crosswell of Columbia, John R. Long II of Charleston and Norton Johnson and Jess Johnson, both of Myrtle Beach; and 12 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel in Murrells Inlet. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Conway. The Rev.
