    3. Aug 10, 2001 Joseph M. Chandler FLORENCE -- Joseph M. Chandler, 76, died Thursday, August 9, 2001 after an illness. Born March 29, 1925, in Lamar, he was the son of the late Muldrow A. and Ada Wright Chandler. He was a decorated U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served in the Pacific theater during World War II. He owned and operated Chandler Furniture Co. in Florence for more than 37 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church for more than 50 years. He was active in the Russell Luhrs' Sunday School Class and the Senior Adult Ministry. He was also a member of the Florence Harmony Chorus. Survivors include his wife, Betty Welsh Chandler of Florence; his children, Joanne C. (and Larry N.) Prosser of Murrells Inlet, Ronald S. and (Joy) Chandler of Florence, and Kay C. and (Jim) DeBerry of Effingham; his grandsons, Chad (and Jamie) Prosser of Murrells Inlet, Micah Chandler of Florence, Jared (and Cindy) Chandler of Santee, Brandon and Cole DeBerry of Effingham, and Emerson (and Kim) and Gerald Beasley of Florence; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Marvin Houser of Lynchbrug, William (and Miriam) Chandler of Moncks Corner, Mary Ellen Houser of Lynchburg, and Gary Chandler of Kannapolis, NC. Preceding him in death are one brother, and four sisters. Visitation will be Saturday, August 11, 2001 from 5-7pm, at Cain-Poston Funeral Home, 512 West Second Loop Road, Florence, SC. Funeral services will be Sunday, August 12, 2001 at 3:00pm, at First Baptist Church of Florence. Interment will be in Olanta Baptist Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church, 300 S. Irby Street, Florence, SC 29501. Funeral services are being directed by Cain-Poston Funeral Home.
