    3. PAMPLICO John Johnson John Alex "James" Johnson, 79, of 1030 Delta Mills Road, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, in a Florence hospital after an illness. He was born in Horry County, a son of the late Jerry Mar and Maggie Williamson Johnson. He was a retired, self-employed farmer and carpenter. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having been a recipient of the Oak Cluster with two stars and the Purple Heart after being wounded in action twice. He was a member of the D.A.V. and Mount Elon Free Will Baptist Church. He was a loving grandfather, father, and husband of 60 years. Survivors include his wife, Altha Jane Watson Johnson; two daughters, Joyce Flowers and her husband, Legrand, of Myrtle Beach and Marilyn Hoffmeyer and her husband, Timmons, of Florence; four sons, James Kenneth Johnson and his wife, Mary, David Lamar Johnson and Jerry Johnson and his wife, Mary, all of Pamplico, and Ronald Johnson of Moncks Corner; three sisters, Pincey Cook and Lessie Weaver, both of Galivants Ferry, and Inez Todd of Lancaster; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sisters, Selena Brooks and Pauline Tinker. The funeral will be at 4 p.m. today at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home in Florence. Burial will be in Florence Memorial Gardens.
