CHARLOTTE, N.C. | Mrs. Mildred D. Howie, 82, of Charlotte, N.C., died February 11, 2009 at Presbyterian Hospital of cardiopulmonary failure. Mildred was born February 6, 1927 in Conway, South Carolina. She was the daughter of Elizabeth Garrison Dawsey and Albert Ellis Dawsey. She was preceded in death by her brother, Gene Dawsey; stepbrother, Bryan Elliott; stepsister, Myrtle Case; husband, Ward Stacy Howie; son, ''Buddy'' Ward Howie Jr.; and daughter, Lee Howie Scheffer. She is survived by stepsister, Ruth Townsend of Mount Pleasant; stepbrother, Forrest Elliott; half sister, Arlene Elliott Jackson, both of Nichols; and their families. Also remaining to celebrate and cherish her life are daughter, Vicki Miller and husband, John; daughter, Gail Zahnd and husband, Mark; and grandchildren, Shelley Miller, Gary Miller, Blake Zahnd, Aly Zahnd, Riley Zahnd, Rhys Zahnd, Evan Scheffer, Stacey Scheffer, and Brett Howie. Memorial Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, February 15, 2009 in the Chapel at Aldersgate at 3800 Shamrock Dr., with reception immediately following. Our family wishes to thank Dr. Jonathan McClean and all the staff of Mid Carolina Cardiology, Dr. Geoff Chapman and all the staff of Oncology Specialists of Charlotte, Dr. Scott Kremers, and Dr. Stuart J. Garner. Because of their excellent care and incredible treatment, we had her longer than we ever thought possible.
