NICHOLS — Mr. Stephen Douglas McCormick, 81, husband of Margie Johnson McCormick, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006, at Carolinas Hospital System in Florence after an illness. Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at Mullins Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Jason Brewer and the Rev. George Ganey officiating. Burial will follow in Devotion Gardens Cemetery, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home. Mr. McCormick was born March 23, 1924, in Mullins, a son of the late Lawrence and Sarah McLain McCormick. He was a retired sales representative for a food brokerage firm. Mr. McCormick was former mayor of the City of Nichols. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II. Mr. McCormick was a Master Mason and a member of Nichols Masonic Lodge No. 83. He was a member of Nichols American Legion Post No. 82. Mr. McCormick was a lifetime member of Mullins Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and elder and was a former Sunday school teacher and superintendent. Surviving Mr. McCormick in addition to his wife of 58 years and of the home are a daughter, Deborah (Tim) Hammond of Florence; two sons, Douglas (Charlotte) McCormick of Florence and Bill (Christy) McCormick of Charlotte, N.C.; his grandchildren, Alan (Donna) McCormick, Scott Hammond, Bob (Abby) Hammond, Christie McCormick, Cory McCormick, Jason (Christy) McCormick and Christopher Gepfert; three great-grandchildren, Amber, Mason and Colin McCormick; a brother, Malcolm (Kathryn) McCormick of Nichols; two sisters, Louise Geiger of Charleston and Frances (Marvin) Harrelson of Columbia; a sister-in-law, Ruby Britt of Marion; a brother-in-law, Robert (Margaret) Johnson of Mullins; and several nieces and nephews.
