MULLINS — Mr. Alfred R. Garner, 70, widower of Joyce Lambert Garner, died Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, at McLeod Regional Medical Center after an illness. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, at Reedy Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Darrell Floyd and the Rev. Mike Watkins officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Smith-Collins Funeral Home of Marion. Mr. Garner was born Dec. 7, 1935, a son of the late Larkin W. and Nellie M. Garner. He was a retired mechanic and a U.S. Navy veteran. Mr. Garner was a member of Reedy Creek Baptist Church. Surviving Mr. Garner are his children, Kimberly J. Doengi of Rowland, Okla., Tammy Haselden and her husband, James, of Marion and Alfred Garner Jr. of Marion; five brothers, Jack Garner, Jimmy Garner, Oliver Garner and William Garner, all of Lugoff, and Melvin Garner of Lexington; three sisters, Trancey Twitty of Camden, Faye Taylor of Elgin and Valarie Lominac of Camden; six grandchildren, Ryan Ellis, James Henry, Rocky Powers, Jamie Haselden, Dillon Doengi and Logan Haselden; four great-grandchildren; and 29 nieces and nephews. Mr. Garner was predeceased by a brother, Lyndsey Garner, and three nephews. Memorials may be made to Reedy Creek Baptist Church, 2508 U.S. 501 South, Marion, SC 29571. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Smith-Collins Funeral Home.
