CONWAY | Irene Herring Smith, 85, wife of James Conley ''J.C.'' Smith of Lakeland Drive died Saturday, September 30, 2006 at her residence following an illness. Mrs. Smith was born in Arcadia, Florida, a daughter of the late George Samuel and Helen Elizabeth Hardee Cox. She was predeceased by her first husband, W.P. Herring Jr.; one daughter, Janice Holden; two brothers; and eight sisters. Mrs. Smith was a member of North Conway Baptist Church. Surviving in addition to her husband of Conway are two sons, James Price Herring and his wife, Sharon Ann, of Burnsville, N.C. and William Keith Herring and his wife, Marsha, of Mullins; two stepsons, James Michael Smith and his wife, Janet, of Lexington and George Craig Smith and his wife, Vicki, of Conway; one sister-in-law, Fannie Sarvis of Conway; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, October 2, 2006 from North Conway Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Gaskins officiating.
