MARION — Mrs. Erna Wieters Sloan, 86, of Marion, SC, wife of the late Cyrus T. Sloan, Jr. and daughter of the late Dr. John C. and Lucille Davis Wieters of Charleston, died Thursday, May 21, 2009, at McLeod Hospice House after a brief illness. Born in Charleston, SC, she moved to Marion after her marriage in 1946. Mrs. Sloan was a homemaker. She taught Sunday School for a number of years, was a Cub Scout Den Mother, and supported her children in their various activities. She was a founding member of the Acacia Garden Club and was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Advent. Mrs. Sloan is survived by her three children; Cyrus T. Sloan, III (Betty) of Marion, Randall D. Sloan of Pawleys Island, and Cynthia Lucille Sloan of Marion; two grandchildren, Anne Conley Sloan of Davidson, NC, and Sarah S. Jowers (Austin) of Atlanta, GA; one great-grandchild, Claire Conley Jowers of Atlanta, GA; and a brother, Charles Wieters of Brevard, NC. Her brother, John Wieters, preceded her in death. Graveside funeral services will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 4:00 PM with the Reverend Richard Archer officiating and directed by Richardson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends after the service at the home of Cynthia Sloan at 905 Evans Road, Marion. The family has asked that memorials be made to the Church of the Advent, PO Box 888, Marion, SC 29571 or to McLeod Hospice, PO Box 100551, Florence, SC 29502-0551.
