LORIS | Ronald Edward ''Ronnie'' Johnson Sr., 60, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at the V.A. Hospital in Charleston following an illness. Mr. Johnson was born May 25, 1948 in Conway, a son of James P. Johnson and the late Irene Hilburn Johnson. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in the Vietnam War, and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. He was predeceased by two brothers, Johnnie M. Johnson and Billy Wayne Johnson. Survivors include his wife, Betty Jane Norton Johnson, of Loris; his father, James P. Johnson of Green Sea; one son, Ronald Edward (Heather Long) Johnson Jr. of Loris; one daughter, Tammy Lynn Johnson of Loris; two sisters, Faye (Henry) Branton of Loris, and Hilda (Andy) Nixon of Mullins; three brothers, James Eldred (Bonnie Tyler) Johnson of Loris, Bobby Ray (Teresa) Johnson of Ash, N.C., and Jimmy Dale (Denise) Johnson of Loris; and three grandchildren, Jermaine Johnson, Jayla Johnson, and Jazmine Johnson. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2009 from the Bethany Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Lewis and the Rev. Tyler Caines officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Ward Funeral Home in Loris as well as other times at the residence of Mrs. Edna Allen.
