MULLINS — Martin C. Barringer, Jr., 88, of Mullins passed away on May 20, 2009. Born in Mt. Pleasant, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Martin C. Barringer, Sr. and Esther Hahn Barringer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ileita Caldwell Barringer. A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Banking and Commerce, he proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. After moving to Mullins in 1947, he established Barringers Jewelers, where he remained active until his retirement. He also opened Gri-Barrs Mens Store of Mullins in 1956. He served as a Director of Davis National Bank from 1966 to 1990, diligently serving as Chairman of the Board from 1978 to 1990. He was also a former member of the Mullins Cotillion Club, Mullins Civitan Club, a charter member of the Mullins Rotary Club, and a Master Mason of the Damascus Lodge. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend. Survivors include his son, Martin C. Barringer, III (Mary Jane) of Little Rock, Arkansas; his daughter, Nancy Barringer Williams of Mullins; four grandchildren, Ray (Sallie) and Laura Williams, Kelley (Josh) Krablin, and Kimberly Barringer; and one great-grandchild Kaylee Grace Krablin. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Macedonia United Methodist Church, with Reverend Kem Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Cedardale Cemetery, Mullins. Memorials will be made to the Endowment Fund at Macedonia United Methodist Church, 402 North Main Street, Mullins, SC 29574.
